Newtondale Trail 2008
11th October

Having set off from Pickering we soon cross a field full of cattle

The first steam of the day travels past us

Very inquisitive

A stop for a drink and a sandwich around 11am

Newtondale

The train photographed earlier heading back to Grosmont.

Fylingdales early warning radar system in the distance.  More information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Fylingdales

Arriving at Hudsons Steps, before the steep decent to cross the railway.  The steps were named after George Hudson who was responsible for much of the building and running the Whitby to Pickering North York Moors Railway

Part of the track along the side of the dale, before the steep decent starts

Going under the railway line at Newtondale halt, before starting the steep climb

Part of the relentless climb, which is steeper than it looks

Almost at the end of the long section of moorland heading into Goathland

Arriving at the Birch Hall Inn at Beckhole (Brad's son in white sitting outside)

Brad joins us at the pub having followed our footsteps for most of the walk

Arriving at Grosmont, the end of the walk, we bought tickets for our journey back to Pickering

Off to look for seats on the train

Relaxing at last

Brad, in white, aged 80!!!  More alert than the rest of us

Arrived back at Pickering

Lots of wartime vehicles await us

Back at the cars, after a successful walk, we remove our boots
